WMC Fashion Week – Beauty Happenings

Most of you know World MasterCard S|S Fashion Week, took place last month in Toronto’s David Pecaut Square.  I had the pleasure of attending a few shows during the week with backstage access for the inside scoop on the beauty looks designed by Grace Lee of Maybelline Canada.

Demoyo – “With In Spira”
This was the only show I was able to catch some good shots at.  These two looks were my absolute favourite.

Knit, stripes, casual and laid back.  I love everything about these pieces.  Check out Daniel’s full post on Jugni Style for more photos from the show and the Fashion Week YouTube recap.

Meanwhile, backstage at Fashion Week is always insane.

I had a opportunity to watch and listen to Head Makeup Artist for Maybelline Canada, Grace Lee, talk about the beauty looks she created for a few shows.  Check them out:

Beautysets - Lucian Matis S|S 20143 Beauty

The beauty look for the Lucian Matis S|S 2013 was quite classic.  You can see the model has very little eye makeup on other than Maybelline’s Mega Plush mascara and a touch of Colour Tattoo Metallics(available in stores January 2013) in Barely Branded.  Her brows are filled with a little bit of powder and sealed with a clear mascara – no liner at all.  Grace chose two shades of Maybelline Colour Sensational Vivids lipstick (available in stores January 2013) – Electric Orange and On Fire Red to create an ultra bright, light-reflecting shade.  There is no blush or eye shadow.  This runway look is something that is quick, simple, and easy to replicate in the real world.  Think you may try something like this in the Spring?

 Beautysets - Vawk/Vawkin S|S 2013

The beauty looks for Vawkin and Vawk were a little more bold than the previous.  Grace was describing the good relationship she has with designer Sunny Vawk who allowed her to use her creative freedom with the looks.  Considering the Vawkin collection is more street-wearable with strong contrasts of black and white, Grace depicted the strength of a woman in her creative use of electrical tape.  Yes, you read that right.  The models had small strips of electrical tape on their lids, which was meant to create a stunning glow on the runway.  With no mascara or other eye makeup for that matter, Grace created a dewy cheek using Baby Lips lip balm.
For Vawk, which is a bit more of a “grown-up” and “expensive” line, Grace created a strong defined brown and a winged liner along with false lashes on the last half of the eye.  Using Colossol Cat Eyes mascara, Grace emphasized the lashes at the corner of the eyes for extra flair.  Giving an older, more defined look, Grace contoured the cheeks and touched up the lips with High Shine Gloss in Ice Chocolate.

I’m not quite sure that you’ll want to walk around with electrical tape on your lids, but you can surely draw inspiration from these looks.  Keep your eyes out for shiny metallics on the lids along with strong, defined brows and bold winged liners for eyes.  Bold lips will also definitely be “in” – however you might see more of the reds and corals than pinks this time around.

I want to thank the ladies at ROI Relations for this backstage access, and my good friend Daniel Pillai (who you’ll be hearing more from) for being my partner in fashion week crime :)

Until next time…
